X-RAY AUDIO PROJECT
presentation & live performance
Many older people in Russia remember seeing and hearing strange vinyl type discs when they were young. The discs had partial images of skeletons on them, were called ‘Bones’ or ‘Ribs’ and originated in the Cold War years of the Soviet Union. In an era when the recording industry was ruthlessly controlled by the State, music-mad bootleggers had found an incredible alternative means of making illegal copies of forbidden recordings – they repurposed used x-ray plates obtained from local hospitals. The X-RAY AUDIO PROJECT is telling this amazing story of forbidden music, cold war culture, bootleg technology and human endeavour with an online archive, a book, documentary, live events and a travelling exhibition. Stephen Coates and Aleks Kolkowski will give a presentation about the history of this first bootleg culture and you will witness a live x-ray cutting from a musical performance.
ADLAS & DJ ION
ADLAS and DJ ION have been friends long before their musical career started. In their teen years they were unified by a mutual love for hip hop and graffiti, which to this day stays a strong influence. After hip hop there came techno for these two. Together they went on to discover gems of past decades and learn more about this new music they were into. The interest didn’t stay limited to techno tough. House, electro, dubstep and electronic music in general are relevant and important sources of inspiration to this day for both of them. Their sound can be described as a techno centered occupation with electronic music. In their sets they display a mix of old and contemporary techno, Electro, house and whatever fits the bpm with a special interest in UK and US sound. They try to keep their musical program diverse and interesting and renounce from the ever dark greyscale techno. In January 2015 Adlas and DJ Ion launched the KRACH party series together as a chance for them to share their musical pursuit with a bigger audience.
ALEC EMPIRE, the creator of digital hardcore on how to start a riot. “If The German capital’s music scene is a ‘historic accident,’ as Tobias Rapp once put it, then Empire is a quintessentially Berlin artist, a direct result of his unique history.” “Electronic music is not about memorizing – it’s about exploring the unknown & experimenting. That’s what sets us apart from traditional pop,” as Empire said. Germany in the eighties was deeply conservative and pop music in any form wasn’t welcome on TV and Radio. Berlin was an island of creativity and Alec Empire, (then Alexander Wilke-Steinhof), was infused with the invention and liberality that set the city apart. (more…)
Alienata is a returning guest, she played Krake Festival twice until now and since she is constantly developing and renewing herself and at the same time keeping her unique alienated style we decided to book her again this year. ALIENATA moved from Spain to Berlin in 2011 and has influenced the Berlin music scene since then in various ways. Not only did she play at selected events in clubs like Suicide Circus, Berghain Kantine, Berghain, CTM Festival, About Blank or Tresor, she also works in her natural habitat at Record Loft. She recently released her first production on her own label Kat Channel, a collaboration with Snuffo from Snuff Crew. When behind the decks, Alienata is closely attuned to both internal and external influences, and is unconcerned with providing listeners with an ‘easy experience.’ “My main intention when I play as Alienata is to alienate people,” she has said. There are not many DJs who always keep a little surprise for you, so we’re thrilled to have her on board again this year! Click the link to watch an interview we did with her last year.
ANNA BOLENA started in 1995 as techno DJ in the free parties alternative scene in Italy and Europe. Interested in innovations and challenges, she runs the label Idroscalo Dischi since 1999. She has a degree in psychology and a master in neurolinguistic programming and communication. Anna lives in Berlin since 2004. Her residency at Homopatik / Buttons started 2010 at ://about blank club. Next vinyl with selected live acts is out soon.
ANNO STAMM // TRANSFORMA
ANNO STAMM is the preferred moniker for the funkiest and wonkiest exploits of Anstam’s Lars Stoewe. For Krake he has developed a special performance with artist group Transforma, which will be performed for the first time exclusively at Krake 2016. Transforma have prepared a new live visual instrument for this special occasion which will accompany Anno Stamm’s live set. The artist group TRANSFORMA was founded in 2001 by Luke Bennett, Baris Hasselbach and Simon Krahl. They met while studying experimental film and media at the Berlin University of the Arts and soon moved from making videos, sound works and images to installations, live cinema and performance. The best introduction to Ansome is to watch his performing live. ANSOME finds himself well-poised. A relatively new name in UK techno, he’s beginning to see the fruits of a couple years of hard work spent running two labels: Discos Dead from 2013 until 2014 and now South London Analogue Material (S.L.A.M.), a platform for both his own releases and those of like-minded producers. A university student whose background lies in electronic music and sound design, Kieran Whitefield, for Ansome is he, moved to London for study, with the city becoming the centre of his musical interests as he immersed himself in the sounds of fellow Londoner Ali Wells, aka Perc, and his Perc Trax label, which has risen to international acclaim in recent years by pushing its sound in ever harsher and more experimental directions. No space for posing or attitude – it’s all about music! Berlin based AXIOM started playing electronic music in the 90s. The biggest impact on him in that time after a still rooted hip hop period was techno and electro. In the early 00’s, experimental sounds became the gravitational point of his musical interests. Electronica, IDM and ambient, stunning new grooves and feelings for harmonics took place in his approach for bringing high quality dancemusic to the audience. In 2006 he wanted to widen his view of what music is, especially the experimental electronic music scene by providing interesting music without putting it under pressure of the all-digesting and redigestive music market. Rotterdam home-based DJ/producer BAS MOOY (1976) has been active on many fronts in the techno scene since 1999. Heavily influenced by a city that breaths industrial strength twenty-fourseven, he gradually found his way into creating a unique dark sound, which lead him to the forefront of the European techno scene. In 2002 he kickstarted the already legendary Audio Assault record label with label partner Jeroen Liebregts aka Radial, which resulted in the birth of sublabel Arms one year later. Since then the Audio Assault family built a strong and constantly growing fan-base worldwide, showcasing an impressive catalogue with a constant output of stand out twelve inches, setting the standard for today’s quality dark techno. Bunai Carus is an IDM/Braindance/Ambient duo based on Brussels. Founded in 2013, BUNAI CARUS [bunaj kaʁys] is a collaboration between Jeremy Louis and Guillaume Quet that started in Montpellier and continues now in Brussels. Both former instrumental musicians from different backgrounds, they desired to create an audiovisual project that would draw inspiration from sound experimentation by such artists as Autechre or Aphex Twin to the ambient landscape of Vladislav Delay among others. They blend various type of sounds like field recordings, contemporary classical samples and generated sounds with a visual to which they attach a great importance. So far they released six EPs on various labels which have been referenced on Many Feet Under (ITA), Clear Error (US), Brainstormlab (UK), SymbioticCube (GE). They are now making part of Mindwaves Music (GE), where they are going to release their seventh EP, Neend.
CEEPHAX ACID CREW
CEEPHAX ACID CREW (often simply credited as Ceephax) is a British acid house, and drum and bass electronic musician named Andy Jenkinson. Jenkinson is also known simply by the pseudonym Ceephax, which is a pun on the BBC teletext service Ceefax. He is the brother of Tom Jenkinson, AKA Squarepusher, and for a while he shared living quarters with Jonathan Taylor, AKA Global Goon. Underground record labels Firstcask, Lo Records and Breakin’ Records each released music by Ceephax (his first record released when he was 18 years old). The more famous Rephlex Records and even more famous Warp Records both released remixes of Squarepusher by Ceephax which sound nothing like the originals.
Around the year 1999 the artist behind CELLARKALT began crafting weird compositions in the basement of his parents’ house. Using very simple equipment he created his own little world full of obscure ideas and captured them on tape. After pressing pause on the project in 2003, he returned 10 years later with a cassette tape release on Elephant Recordings out of the UK. Since this resurgence Cellarkalt has added experimental videos for some of his compositions, giving the work a new dimension. In his live performances he combines cassette recorded sounds, his own text and poetry, along with live noise generated from his drone synths. Get ready for a psychedelic lo-fi experience.
British producer CODEX EMPIRE who is based in Vienna just released his second EP “Cutpurse” on aufnahme + wiedergabe following his remarkable remix for The Soft Moon, the debut EP “Kingsevil” and an appearance at the Boiler Room for aufnahme+wiedergabe label’s 5th anniversary. Hard hitting industrial meets classy and straight techno.

He is also a popular remixer, and in 2005 had an underground hit with Temposhark’s ‘Little White Lie’.
Elke Pohn and ‘the better half’ are the opportunistic alternative: entertaining art music and heavy listening for ‘opfer hour’, sideshow, and drinking hall. The oldest teenager parents of the world serve appetising nibbles in the formats cotton-wool ball, ruby, and cobblestone.
DAITO & ELAD MAGDASI
Lenny Jäzosch aka DAITO finds his inspiration in an older, faster, and harder idea of techno. The word “Daito” is a Japanese term for any kind of samurai sword and expresses the sharp and fast style of techno, which he prdouces, not lacking emotions or soul. His sets contain modern tracks as well as older tracks which were already ahead of their time. ELAD MAGDASI is based in Berlin and been running Front Left Records. His productions and his sets are full of emotion, yet pumping with energy. Oldskool is his best friend, combining the new stuff which has the old vibes.
His day job at an electronic components factory means that he is no stranger to repetition, rhythm and electronics. His sound is perhaps a product of his daily grind with boredom, escapism and a long term passion for technology, horror and science fiction. Inspired by many of the classic Chicago/Detroit/electro/techno producers, like the finest, his sound is unique, uncompromising and unpredictable. His vision of techno is deep and futuristic with a heavy dose of funk. Dez’s passion for sound and the darker side of the human spirit compels him to create tracks on an almost daily basis and he sits on an incredibly vast archive of cassettes, mini-discs and CDs of his work. DEZ WILLIAMS has constantly retained an underground-/cult fanbase. His debut LP ‘Elektronik Religion’ for the SCSI label was hailed as “One of the very few truly great electro albums of the new century”. (more…)
He is a legend in Vienna’s prolific 1990s techno scene, promoter of the first raves and with no doubt one of the best DJs around. DJ GLOW moved to Berlin in 2007 and has been a regular guest at Killekill ever since, moving crowds with his very special mix of electro and challenging house and techno. He runs his label TRUST since 1998, home to avantgardistic techno bass from artists like DJ Stingray, The Exaltics, Clatterbox, Lok44, as well as his own productions and collaborations with Patrick Pulsinger and Microthol.
FALLBEIL don’t reveal much information about themselves apart from the fact that they’re located in Hamburg and their impressive list of gear (AKAI MPC 2000, ACIDLAB BASSLINE 3, ROLAND TR 707, DAVE SMITH EVOLVER, MFB 522, KORG EA-1, CASIO RZ-1, YAMAHA DD-10, ROLAND TR 626, MICROKORG, ROLAND CR-5000, DYNACORD) that reads like the futurist members of a huge electronic band. Their live performances create a haunted and distorted electro sound experience and are accompanied by tape recordings being looped and cut live into noisy sounds and other shit. They released on New York Haunted, Contort Yourself, Terminal Operations and Hafenschlamm.
We’re especially proud to include GESO in our programming this year again. He performed at Krake Festival twice already and the connection grew stronger, as he is handling the festival design since the 2016 edition. As much as we love to work with him as a graphic and art designer, we do appreciate him as a visual artist and are very much looking forward to his performance. Also known as Pablo IA (Pablo Iglesias Algora, Madrid 1977) is an active creative mind involved in different art and design fields. As graphic designer and art director for GeeOhDee studio, as artist creating works for exhibitions in galleries and festivals (previously with his brother and partner), as DJ and promotor of electronic music events and of course, as publisher and curator (since 1999) for his main project: Belio, an art publishing house and organization who runs exhibitions, concerts, festivals, conferences and workshops. HOPS is a Berlin-based DJ and a long-time member of the Hard Wax crew. He is considered to be an expert in reggae, dancehall and bass culture. As a DJ, being infected with the jungle virus since the 90s his sets range from fresh UK bass derivates to classic house and techno vibes. Formerly a resident at the legendary Horst Krzbrg club, also resident at Loefah’s 81 nights in Berlin, DJ Hops has killed many a dibby-dibbys with deadly mixing and devastating basslines. He also co-runs the pioneering Version events in Berlin and has been a regular contributor to the esteemed Berceuse Heroique podcast series.
S. Jimenez, JASSS, is a Spanish artist dedicated to create mainly electronic music. Not attached to genres, she explores different angles, technics and languages in the studio and behind the decks. KUNO & SPACEINVASION
Being a hip-hop dancer since the age of ten, Dario Scarano alias KUNO got into DJing at the age of sixteen and started producing music himself at the very young age of 18. Having started with mostly UK-bass music, he is now a badass disk jockey with a very distinctive style somewhere between acid, techno, and electro. Leon Wolter alias SPACEINVASION has got a punk and hardcore background and started to deal with electronic music in 2012. His sound as a DJ and producer still bears that aesthetics and is driven by noisy lo-fi productions, dirty acid synthesizers and gritty electro. He is also co-founder of the music and art collective Abyss, which is showcasing disk jockeys, live acts, light and video artists on a regular base at ://about blank in Berlin.
Kyoka works as a musician/composer in Berlin and Tokyo and is known for her chaotic and direct musical approach and a heavy-rough sound, resulting in a broken pop-beat with experimental yet danceable rhythms. In 1999, she started to explore the potential of synthesizers/computers and during her stay in Los Angeles from 2004 to 2008, she enjoyed some first success when her songs charted at local radio stations. In 2008, her first mini-album “ufunfunfufu” was released on the berlin-based onpa))))) label, followed by “2ufunfunfufu” in 2009 and “3ufunfunfufu” as an exclusively digital release. 2012 saw the release of KYOKA’s first 12″ EP “iSH” on raster-noton, which is now to be followed by “is (is superpowered)”, her first full length album due in may, 2014. A quote by Ryuichi Sakamoto may underline the exceptional talent of Kyoka: “Panic! it sounds like a toy box turned up side down. how can she make such pretty and chaotic sounds!? I love it!”
LARS HEMMERLING was born in 1977 in central Berlin. Together with his twin brother Gunnar he explored his love for electronic music in an early age. Influenced by the sound of different 80s electronic music bands and producers like for example Kraftwerk, he and his brother developed their interest for electronic music and especially for the toys to do it. After the fall of the Berlin Wall they experienced the first tekkno parties at an unknown place called Rüdersdorf and started djing in the early 90s. Clubs like E-Werk, Tresor and the record store Hardwax had such a strong impact so it is not suprising that both guys set their preferences into dark dub driven electronic music with a note of acid. After a journey of three years to Hamburg, where Lars was a resident of the local Techno Promoter STROM, he moved back to Berlin in 2001 to start producing with his brother. (more…)

Madalba was born in July 1985 in Bari, Italy. From a very young age her interest in different musical cultures such as house and dance music arose and also spread through rock and punk, which eventually lead to techno and club culture. At age 22 she approached the local scene as DJ with numerous performances in the club circuit of Bari. Through the years she has developed a continued and careful respect of the musical experience. She moved to Berlin and started DJing with only vinyl records. This helped build her strong reputation as an underground techno DJ, and provided opportunity for her to play in clubs such as Tresor, About Blank, SK Robinson, Mikz and Tacheles in Berlin, the city she lives in today. In September 2011, she moved to Detroit. (more…)
It’s about a phantom, a weird phantomas of the club scene, who enters the stage again and again in new appearances, autonomously taking his place. He fills the space with life, makes folks smile, and disappears again. A mixture of clown, club kid, installation, and performance MARIA PSYCHO has been influenced by the British and American club kid movement of the 1980s and 1990s, around figures like Leigh Bowery and Michael Aliq, designers like Alexander Mc Queen and Andrej Bartenev, as well as clowns like David Lrible, Oleg Popow, and Berhard Paul. Maria Psycho desires to change normality, colour life, and subvert established gender norms. He would like to help make space for difference in society and likes to point at the possibility of realizing one’s true self and that it is always worth to embody what makes oneself happy.
MAX DURANTE is a true pioneer of industrial techno, as well as a real wizard and inventor on the turntables. “His hands are so fast that it is difficult to follow his movements, his scratches are balm for the eyes and for the ears,” as the Neue Zürcher Zeitung reported. He began his professional DJ career 1987 in Rome after he visited London, where he had fallen for the sound of the acid house parties. Returning to England in 1990 he experienced the early raves. Very much inspired by that sound he started experimenting, mixing techno and electro with industrial sounds in his unique way. (more…)
An obsessed digger and DJ originating from Denmark, MEJLE co-runs Mechatronica with the rest of the gang from Berlin’s unshakable electro and acid collective, who recently launched their record label and continue to forcefully promote machine–driven underground music, in part through a years–long residency at Griessmühle. By means of a rugged and dynamic approach to DJing, he surfs the realms of electro, acid, breaks, techno, house, EBM, wave and disco in his selections, and has with only a few years in town proven to satisfy the floors of well-established clubs, underground joints and everything in between.
Many in the music business work on erasing mistakes. The static produced by tangled wires between the instrument and the amplifier is being filtered out painstakingly, random recording mistakes are being deleted, and replaced by correct versions until everything fits. Until everything is pleasantly plain. Others in the business work with the waste of these procedures, with the dispensable, the sonic trash. This is how the sample nerd and stage dervish M-F-X works: he listens to his vinyl collection closely and grabs the hiss and the hum of a thick bass string – not the tone – samples the breathing sounds of his favorite singer – not the voice – and processes the sound his Budapest shoes produce on asphalt into a wonky beat. If his music was a movie one would be fascinated by a-synchronically edited audio and video tracks. A torrent of pictures would dash onto the spectator telling of survival in the city, of a cool resistance, of glamour, and shipwreck. In spite of this complexity it is still music, not film – music breaking barriers. (more…)
Mogano is the moniker of electronic music producer and imprint founder Marco Berardi. The name ”mahogany” re-calls both the percussive and string infused nature of his music as well as his profound fascination for ancient musical practices and nature as a source of knowledge. In his youth, Marco was a guitarist involved with a variety of musical projects, around 2010 he began to perform in clubs as a DJ. Making his way in the dub and techno scene, he then formed a synergy with visual artist Andrea Familari Fax and sound designer Drøp (Giuseppe Bifulco), both of whom are now part of the Arboretum imprint. Arboretum has become their cooperative platform for Audio/Video experimentation as well as a record label. Since 2012 the project is based and active in Berlin and has been involved in a remarkable framework of concepts such as Contort (NewCodes Berlin Atonal), Dromoscope (CTM Festival Vorspiel), roBOt Festival, Flussi Festival, Undogmatisch, and many others.
MONYA has quickly made a name for herself as a DJ and producer with several EPs and an album for BCR under her belt. Her bass-heavy and hypnotic approach to techno is leaning heavily towards industrial, which makes her music seem both claustrophobic and massive at once. After founding her own imprint Corresponding Positions last year, the Berlin-based Pole now returns with the new EP Punk For President, which apart from the feverish title track also includes remixes by Annie Hall, Rebekah and Electric Indigo.
Imagine you are taking care of your Bonsai. Listen to the silent murmuring of the nearby fountain. Carefully and calmly cut the tree’s leaves, remove its withered sprigs. Pause. Breathe. You wonder if talking to plants helps them grow? Gently apply balm to sensitive areas on your bonsai’s phylum, “take care of the old and make room for the new” you think by yourself. Get rid of artificial genres or labels, NO FRILLS was born out of an infatuation with music per se and a desire to share and explore all of music’s varieties together with friends, like-minded, interested and by-passers. We are stuck in a continuous process, stuck in the absolute middle of a never-ending development. The page as you see it is a status quo of where we are, a personal insight into our informational processing.
PAÁL & EZURI
EZURI is one of the founders of the Underground Techno Label VOITAX. His musical background looks back at 20 years of experience. His very own productions and sets build an unique and deep watch over some very special types and styles of Underground Electronic Music: Drone, Noize, Dark Ambient, IDM, Dubstep, Industrial and of course Techno itself. Dramaturgy and meticulous finesse are always his constant companions. That means you will never ever get to hear predictable sets or tracks, this is a »no go« for Ezuri. His music always drives in a dynamic change, embedded in a dreamful dark filled with a unthinkable warm deepnes within an endless swoosh. The Sets with his label colleague and good buddy Paál cover the bright spectrum from experimental Sound to full demanding and pounding techno. (more…)
Pat Flanders is a DJ, promoter and manager of the Berlin based electronica label Mindwaves-Music. In his rare DJ-sets he is known to present cutting edge electronica and bass material with traces of underlying emotionalism and experimentalism. With her broad musical knowledge, openly experimental affinities and eagerness to explore dance music’s darkest corners, Reka perfectly nails what it means to be a Tresor resident. Growing up in a Spanish small town, Reka absorbed the sounds of club music at an early age. By seven she started enthusiastically collecting tapes of her favorite tunes and radio shows. By ten she was hanging regularly with her uncle’s record collection. A full-fledged music fan by twelve, she had already discovered the sounds of Italo Disco, Acid House and New Beat. But it wasn’t until way later, after finishing her Genetics studies, that Reka would really pursue her creative side. (more…)
Berlin based DJ/producer SAINT MAURICE (NL) released several records this year under his alias ‘Neugeborene Nachtmusik’ on Dutch labels Enfant Terrible an Ordo Viatorium; intense ritual industrial music. Behind the decks the intensity prevails, as he preaches elektro, acid, wave, industrial, and techno. In the recent past he lifted spirits in Berlin’s finest venues like Griessmühle, About Blank, Suicide Circus, Ohm, Berghain Kantine, and Humbolthain.
Despite his rave roots, the Berlin-based artist’s new album and the club night he promotes draw further away from techno and deeper into the post-apocalyptic dance fringes of the revered Downwards label it’s released on. Angus Finlayson investigates. There’s plenty of dark, challenging techno around at the moment, but the output of SAMUEL KERRIDGE stands alone. First emerging with an EP on Horizontal Ground last year, Kerridge’s sound is as romantic as it is grim, a bleak death march through some snow-blown apocalyptic landscape. In conversation, the Berlin-based Kerridge – these days he goes simply by his second name – seems hesitant to use the “techno” descriptor at all. Certainly, while his early output often retained a stodgy four-four stomp in amongst the noxious soundscaping, his forthcoming album seems less beholden to the dancefloor than ever. (more…)
SEBASTIAN KÖKOW stands for techno in its purest form. Not only is he part of the more than legendary video crew The29NovFilms, which is responsible for over 5000 videos accompanying tracks of more or less anybody with a standing in the techno scene, but also is he a dj who has developped a reputation in Berlin’s underground with his raw and intense techno sets which are heavily influenced by his love for industrial and EBM.
Syl Kougaï is a French electronic music producer who composes radically chiseled electronica with very unique sounds. Elaborating them with extreme demands, he has the passion for complex synthesis and deluding acoustics: harmonious hisses, deep and telluric layers, crackling steel basses. SYL KOUGAÏ has released his third full studio album ΙΧΘΥΣ in a joint effort between the well respected labels Schematic Records (USA) and Hymen Records (DE). Described as “immense and warped” by the Stalker Radio Show, it is no exaggeration to say that this opus has shaken the world of IDM. A mind trip for all the lovers of forward thinking music.
SOUNDPANZER FEAT. INFINITE LIVEZ
performance by Nik Nowak
The sculptor, musician, and engineer Nik Nowak invented the Sound Tank or “Soundpanzer”. Seemingly weaponry, the machine is equipped with huge 4000w loudspeakers, samplers, and mixers instead of a canon. Does this device therefore once more proofs media archaeologist Friedrich Kittler’s thesis that “rock music is misuse of military equipment”, only that today’s rock music still is techno? The artist, however, is said to feel sometimes as if he fuses with his gadget into a cyborg. At Krake Nik will be collaborating with Infinite Livez. INFINITE LIVEZ is a MC and artist who studied Chelsea Art College. His wide range of influences comes from such diverse sources as p-funk and surrealism. His first album “Bush Meat” was released on Big Dada Records in 2004 to immediate critical acclaim in the UK and abroad.
Tapirus – a mystical creature arises where the mountains meet under the misty moonlight. Having endured through uncertain, deep, and dark times over the ages, TAPIRUS emerges renewed and rejuvenated, as a stronger definition of his former self. He conjures with a powerful force fantastical creations from the depths of his being. On the one hand, tough with a bite – to reflect the rough, acidic terrains he had to traverse and overcome to arrive at the here and now. On the other hand, ethereal, of flight and fantasy, representing the transcending of character that was necessary to take place. His deeply musical and sophisticated manifestations speak of transformation and elevation. If you ever chance upon an encounter with the mystical Tapirus, hold still, hush and listen to his stories.
The29nov films is a duo of video artists. They’ve been making videos for almost every single relevant techno artist releasing in the the last years. They’re doing visuals for live shows and in clubs. THE 29NOV FILMS work with found footage mostly, most of which they find on the internet, cutting and editing simple trash, advertisments, but also classics into their collages. Over the years a few thousand videos were released echoing the crazy velocity of techno. They are known for their taste and sensitivity in what to pick for a certain sound and how to use it. They are an instant part of all Killekill work regarding labels and events and can be booked as visual artists.
For over 20 years by now Robert Witschakowski is part of the electronic music scene. In 2006 he founded the project THE EXALTICS as well as the electro/ techno label SolarOneMusic with his long term friend Nico Jagiella. Since then he published countless 12″s and several LPs with labels like Clone, Crème Organization, Bunker or on his own label SolarOneMusic. He turned his deep cinematic and most of all charismatic electro into his own trademark and crosses it over with another signature sound of his, which is his special dark driven acid techno. During his live performances Robert works with a well known Berlin Artist to be able to bring his unique version of electro and acid music on stage. This duo guarantees pure energy during their live performances.
TURNTABLE NOISE ORCHESTRA
by Max Durante
Max Durante has a long musical history. Sonic Groove label boss Adam X named Max Durante a true legend and innovator of ‘Industrial Techno’ in the early 90’s. At some occasions you can catch him proving his percussive approach to DJing, using a drumstick to add beats and noise over the playing record, handling the record player like an instrument. We are pround to be able to present a special performance he created for which he is combing his impressive turntable skills and extends them to a sound collage consisting of loops created in real time. Make sure not to miss this noisy and percussive installation piece, which he will present exclusively for Krake Festival.
UNHUMAN & SIRIO GRY J
b2b dj set
SIRIO GRY J & UNHUMAN back to back is a battle. It’s diving into obscure and dystopic landscapes, driven by radical techno grooves, industrial beats, and dragged by the anger of postpunk. The Greek-Roman DUEL not only carries the weight of history, but it also represents the junction of two relevant blocks of the underground Berlin scene: Monolith Records, a label project looking ahead to the grim future of human kind, and Liber Null Berlin, an event platform celebrating such decadence through a subtle commingling of different arts.
Vertical67 is Thomas Pahl from Germany. For this modest gentleman a typical way to describe himself would be: “…just a guy from Berlin, doing electronic music.” But don’t be fooled: since 2008 he has been releasing a steady amount of emotive and beautiful tracks on EP’s and albums under his main VERTICAL67 alias, but also as The Coloured Chaos and Vacuum System. Among his outlet sources are labels like 100% Silk, Lunar Disko and Photic Fields. In 2015 Thomas co-initiated his own label with his partner Naks: Vortex Traks, on which they release his own music (as Vertical67) but also tracks by other musician’s like Mesak, Jeremiah R, Matti Turunen and Automatic Tasty. And there will be more to come! (more…)
VINYL TERROR & HORROR
VINYL TERROR & HORROR is a collaboration between Camilla Sørensen and Greta Christensen. Our approach to music starts from a visual and sculptural practice. Turntable deconstruction and rearrangement of the vinyl media in all imaginative ways is strongly influencing our sounds. We are working in the field of cinematic soundscapes with a high tolerance level of possible hifi disasters. Sentimental heartbreaking sequences where the opera singer is looping and the birds are singing backwards…. until the breakdown of needles and chaos taking over. Cut up and mistreated records looping and creaking from dust and sloppy treatment. Pick-up`s being pushed disrespectfully over grooves. Records spinning backwards and forwards while played from multiple pick-ups simultaneously. Meanwhile the lady in stilletoes just keeps on walking down the stairs. Repetitive arrangements, dark sounds, neck breaking mixes, film-amateur sound effects, scratches, quieks, vinyls, terror and horror.
WORDS is the alias of a weird DJ hailing from Jerusalem. Some of the first places where he played and raved were tunnels located right next to where Jesus was crucified (true story!). Now he’s in Berlin, putting down futuristic music in clubs. Usually that means that it’s kinda techno with strong acid and UK flavors. Very rave stuff. Most important detail: Words is in love with the sound of the 808 kick.
WSR is Emanuele Porcinai’s solo project. He debuted last year with ‘Stainless’ on Contort Records, which was presented on the main stage at the 2015 edition of Berlin Atonal festival. He operates in the limbo between acoustic and synthetic music, humanising electronic sources while mutating sounds taken from real instruments and environments. His research and experimentation focuses on the possibilities given by self-built string instruments and their sonic physicality in both studio practice and improvisation/live performance. Porcinai is also co-founder and part of the project/label Unknot together with producer and DJ Sciahri.
