Angry, punishing, oppressive industrial sounds with techno influences forces you to kick drums until the last drop of fluid rinsed out of your body. Industrial never has been sweeter.
Brigitte Enzler grew up with early New German Wave and the darker side of European New Wave. She has been actively involved in the New Wave scene since she was a teenager, if it was playing in a band, running a label or organising parties. Appearances of her are rare, we’re more than happy she chose Krake Festival for this special occurrence.
Techno is his style, the straight up kind! At the age of 17 Charlton began chasing the early rave parties which were happening all over the Netherlands. His love for electronic music turned into an obsession and he started DJing and it was around this time that Charlton rst came face to face with techno. Boosted by the Electronic Music Productions study he took at one of Holland’s best known music production colleges, he started putting his work together for his rst live PA. Charlton’s inventive style of producing tracks back then combined techno from “the old days” with his own dark o -beat rhythms. Adding nasty razor-sharp and hypnotizing acid basslines to this creating a truly unique ‘Charlton’ sound which had a great impact on Dutch techno scene.

Japanese avant-garde synth wave duo Group A have shocked most spectators in their early shows with non-stop waves of experimental noise, intensely emotional poetry reading and nude live-paintings. While their mixture of synth heavy minimal wave, avant noise, striking visuals and performance art still carries the very breath of early industrial pioneers such as Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voltaire, the duo has since evolved into a beast of its own.

Phurpa is a Russian musical collective and performance group, recording and playing authentic ritual music of Bon, the oldest Buddhist tradition from Tibet, using ritual instruments and special tantric singing technique. The trademark style of the band is based on a special type of tantric overtone singing/chanting, called gyukye, from Tibetan words ‘rgyud’ (tantra) and ‘skad’ (sound of the voice). This singing is based on the principle of practitioner’s transmogri cation during chanting meditation. This technique is achieved through an extensive training, including both meditation and physical, breathing and vocal exercises. Special training includes standing on your head while rehearsing and also drinking black tea with chili pepper and cream – hot pepper is irritating your vocal cords, so they are swelling up a little, while cream acts as a lubricant. Phurpa uses ritual Tibetan instruments to perform their music, which includes dungkar (horn made out of huge seashell), dungchen (three-metre-long horn/trumpet), damaru (drum, made out of human skulls), kangling (human thighbone trumpet) etc.

SHXCXCHCXSH + PEDRO MAIA
The Swedish duo released 3 full length albums in 3 years and has etched its unpronounceable name in the techno world as fast. The Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Maia is working mostly around the concept of Analogue Cinema, exploring the medium potentiality, and expanding the aesthetic and technological “heritage” of the classic films procedures of working with 16mm and 8mm material.
SHXCXCHCXSH’s A/V in collaboration with the Pedro Maia, explores the analogue lm and aims to pay tribute to the celluloid lm – the main raw material used by cinema during its first century of existence – offering an exploration of both its qualities and limitations.

We stare into the radiant light, and stumble blind and mad into the moonless night. We bow not our heads, nor do we ask for mercy. The world is agony. This is a journey of pain, ecstasy, and death. We do not seek companionship, because this prison of flesh is a solipsism. We straddle the balancing point between light and darkness, love and hate, life and death. We hide our countenance to reveal the hidden faces of the gods. Eternity is but an instant. Trepaneringsritualen, one of many nom de guerre of Thomas Martin Ekelund, has been active since 2008 and has performed countless live rituals across the world.
